Artist Statement:  Painting, for me, is a spiritual and psychological process. I am inspired by literature, nature, beautiful old objects, historical figures, and those I love. While these inspirations may not always be evident in a straightforward way, they are what occupy my thoughts while working, and are behind most of my work.

I either paint from life, my own photographs, and occasionally from photographs taken by friends (with permission.)  If a reference is difficult to find, then I may look for something with the same "feel" at a thrift store or yard sale, or sculpt a reference. I believe this is all part of the process, and the process is what I love.
